Even when the camera wasn't rolling, the experience of being in a television commercial for one of my books was a heady experience. Besides, unlike live TV, there were "do over's." |

To make the commercial authentic, the filming took place in a lovely home in New Orleans. What you won't see when the spot airs is that the fireplace behind me generated lots of heat and the air conditioner in the house was turned off so that the sounds didn't interfere with the commercial being recorded. And it was May, which is already warm in New Orleans. Hence, I was being "blotted" for any sparkles of perspiration. |

Hello Writers and Friends: |
Need a nudge? This summer, invest in yourself. Enroll again in the on-line classes. It’s too easy to lose motivation. That won’t happen when you’re in my class. Check out the classes on www.ed2go.com or click right through from my site. Tip of the month: Query by snail mail. I’ve found that editors are being inundated with email queries that simply are way off the mark. So produce a cleanly written query on an article or your book’s topic, include some clips if you have them, and send them to the appropriate editor with a SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelop). Sure it’ll cost you two stamps, but the return could launch your career. I’m just back from the Oklahoma Federation of Writers Conference. If you live in the Midwest and want to connect with motivated writers, this is a good organization. One of the toppers at the conference was hanging out with my friend Debbie Macomber, (www.debbiemacomber.com). As Debbie, my husband Joe and I munched on breakfast, we talked about how we’d both been on television the day before, on “Read About it” a fine library supported program. Then we dove into the business of writing. Debbie and I agree on lots and how we love to get fan mail. Nudge alert: Send a note or an email to your favorite writer. Tell this author why he/she is your top choice and share your writing goals. It’s been a hectic and intoxicating month. I recently returned from New Orleans to film a TV commercial for my book What to Do When a Loved One Dies. I had a grand time, including having a fabulous meal at the incredible restaurant Ralph’s on the Green. At the filming I was ready and knew my lines, which made the producer, director and about 12 others heave huge sighs. Really and out loud. The commercial will be seen in test areas in the South and then around the U.S. The photos were the behind the scenes and the make up artist made me feel like a movie star. What a hoot. Be sure to check my site for places where I’ll be speaking. I might show up in your neighborhood. Must get back to writing and nudging writing students. Eva Ghostwriting for Fun & Profit |
